Economic, Enterprise & Empowerment Challenge 2010 – Nurturing Hope & Self Reliance

ARUNIM (Association for Rehabilitation under National Trust Initiative of Marketing) had extended an invitation to all members of National Trust & ARUNIM to participate in the E3 Challenge 2010, a challenge to invite the business proposals to be selected as its first pilot projects for converting sheltered workshops to micro enterprise model.


THE E3 CHALLENGE (Economic, Enterprise & Empowerment) had already created a terrific buzz and the awards ceremony as expected was a tremendous success with over 200 invitees gracing the occasion held at India International Centre on May 4th, 2011. Maj. Gen. Ian Cardozo, Chairperson, Rehabilitation Council of India was the Chief Guest and gave away the awards. The dignitaries on the dias were Mr. Dilip Chenoy, CEO & MD - NSDC, Mr. V S Ramana, GM & Head Corp. Comm. - L&T ECC, Ms. Sminu Jindal, Chairperson - ARUNIM & Ms. Poonam Natarajan, Chairperson - National Trust who shared about their experiences, vision, partnership with ARUNIM.  Members from many Corporate, Buyers and PSUs i.e. Fair Trade, Setu, Nasscom Foundation, American India Foundation, The White Light, NBCFDC, Media member from Disha Channel,  Partner members from NSDC & Startup were present at the function.


Hon'ble Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Shri. Mukul Wasnik, was unable to attend the function owing unforeseen commitments.


ARUNIM's role now is to provide 6 months mentorship to all the six winners. Start Up!, an associate partner in this venture has been engaged to see these businesses through the incubation period and help with the marketing plan,  business strategy, operational plan, transitioning process etc. Sumithra Prasad, a senior media professional is doing the visual documentation of the entire process.


The Awards were divided into three categories and each category has two winners. The following are the winners of E3 Challenge 2010:


Best Venture Idea and Business Plan by an Organization converting into an Enterprise

  • Rajasthan Mahila Kalyan Mandal, Ajmer - Woodwork & Textile Products
  • Society for Child Development, Delhi - Colored Powders for Holi & Rangoli made with dried flowers and Vermi-compost

Best Emerging Venture

  •  Manav Kalyan Evam Utthan Samiti, Uttar Pradesh - Aloe Vera Cosmetic & Herbal Products
  • Rampur Haat Spastics and Handicapped Society, West Bengal - Textile Products using Kantha Stitch 

Best Individual Entrepreneur

  • Arshad, Delhi - Artificial Coral Reef
  • Sangeeta Verma, Madhya Pradesh - Arts & Handicrafts work training cum retail outlet
